At work again, with shoulders twinging occasionally to remind me that they exist.

Just sent another OB freshman out the door with his business theory paper: three sound theories of modern business work motivation. One: equity theory. People work better if they feel they are being treated fairly and all employees are on a level basis. Two: goal theory. People are more motivated to attain a goal if it is clearly defined, difficult, and attractive. People like to work on things that interest them and will give a high level of personal satisfaction upon completion. Three: personal and material resource theory. Constraints on a person's work are demotivating. Put the right person with the right job (something they can do) and give them the tools they need in order to accomplish their goal.

With these three steps you can have a functional and productive business with a lot of happy workers.

What are the work motivation theories of life?
